2018 Sunday Discount Sale!
2018 Sunday Discount Sale!
Many shoppers look forward to great deals on plants on the last day of the Plant Sale. Again this year, plants will be ONE-THIRD OFF on Sunday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the State Fair Grandstand. Wristbands are given out starting at 9 a.m.
We had a busy sale, but there are still a substantial number of plants left in many areas. Remember, you can tell if a plant is sold out already by looking in the Find Plants section of our website. Here's what you might find:
Plenty of selection throughout, especially in cosmos, ornamental cabbage, dahlias, impatiens (lots of impatiens already in flower!), petunias, Angel’s Trumpet, snapdragons and zinnias. You’ll find fewer geraniums, alyssum and no moss roses, but still plenty to choose from to provide color in your hanging baskets, planters and garden beds.
The perennials have a wide range of plants left. You’ll find coral bells, lots of varieties of coneflower and some really fun hens and chicks. There’s a good selection of hosta, poppies, and phlox. If you’re looking for something new and interesting, check out the wide variety of stonecrop, from little to big. There’s some nice Wild Indigo in the back row and plenty of trillium, that while it looks in bad shape, is just fine.
And peonies! There are so many peonies left! Come check out the huge choice of peonies, including Sorbet and Celebrity. They are outside so don’t miss them. We’ve reduced the price on the ones listed in the catalog for $26 to $23 (and then you get one-third off of that price).
Wow - some amazing deals left in shrubs, both flowering and non-flowering. Spirea, roses, witch hazel, smokebush and rhododendron are just a few of the shrubs left.
A wide range of climbers, including clematis and hops.
Plenty of fixings for your veggie gardens. Tomatoes of almost all varieties, sweet and hot peppers and all sorts of greens: lettuce, kale, mustard greens and more.
Wide availability of natives and grasses, generally - even plenty of milkweed to help feed the monarchs! There are some mixed flats of butterfly and rain garden, plenty of blanket flower, golden alexander, prairie smoke and ferns.
There are some good selections here, including sedges, corkscrew rush for something different, and dropseed.
Bulbs and bareroots
Lots of daylilies and some lillies.
The herbs selection is a bit sparse, although you’ll find good choices in sage, shiso, thyme and some basil. And why not try some Olive Herb? It smells just like kalamata olives.
You can plant a nice orchard with the apple and plum trees that remain! Or try something new - there is a good selection of honeyberries left. Plenty of raspberries and blueberries, too.
Good representation of the rare plants overall, especially a great choice of lady slippers, some woody peonies and hellebores.
We hope to see you tomorrow. The weather looks fine!
