Small clusters of pink and white flowers in early spring before the foliage emerges, but grow it for its glossy, lobed 18–24" leaves in mounds. Leaves are cupped, upward-facing, and collect pools of rainwater. Scarlet fall color. Prefers cooler summers and needs consistent moisture. Tolerates clay soils. Western U.S. native.
