Blackberry-like 1" sweet fruit in late summer and fall. Young trees may take 10 years to begin producing fruit. Red mulberry is historically native to Southeastern Minnesota, but may no longer exist due to hybridization with Morus alba. Host of the mourning cloak butterfly caterpillar. Michigan source.
