About Seedlings of Colossal
These trees were grown from seeds collected from Colossal, a European-Japanese hybrid first cultivated in Nevada City, California, in 1925. Nut-bearing in three to four years. Cold hardy to –25°F. Seedlings are all on their own root.
About Chestnut
Bright yellow flowers in late spring yield to large, sweet nuts encased in spine-covered tan husks. Chestnut trees, once an important part of the U.S. landscape, were all but wiped out by chestnut blight in the first half of the 20th century. Years of breeding to bring back resistant trees are beginning to bear nuts. Two trees, planted in close proximity for wind pollination, required for nut production.
